Replace Device

New in version 2.2 of the iRule Builder is the ability to quickly replace the commands from one device with another. This functionality allows customers that are upgrading devices to quick update the remote. In this tutorial we will replace the commands in the Watch Movie Panel from the Toshiba DVD to a Samsung Blu-Ray player. The Device that was replaced will not be deleted from the setup which is useful if it is going to be used in another room. You can remove the Device from the setup by deleting it. 

1. Open the iRule Builder.
2. Right click on the Device to be replaced and select Replace device with from the drop down list. In the sub menu, select the replacement Device.
3. The Device Replacement dialog appears. The Device to be replaced is listed on the left and the replacement Device is listed on the right. The Builder automatically calculates the number of matching Codes.   
4. Click on the matches list to bring up a preview of the matching codes which are in black and the non-matching codes are in gray.
5. Click on the Preview button to proceed to the next step.
6. The Summary page shows how many codes will be replaced in the Panel (15 our of 16 in this example) and by clicking on the text you can see which codes are not replaced in gray.
7. Click the Replace button to complete the swap.
8. Review the changes in the iRule Builder. If you no longer need the previous devices, you can delete it from your setup but by default it is kept.

Step One: Open iRule Builder

Open the iRule Builder and select the Devices tab.

Step Two: Replace Device

Right click on the Device to be replaced and select Replace device with from the drop down list. In the sub menu, select the replacement Device.

Step Three: Replace Device Dialog

The Device Replacement dialog appears. The Device to be replaced is listed on the left and the replacement Device is listed on the right. The Builder automatically calculates the number of matching Codes.

Step Four: Preview Matching Codes

Click on the matches list to bring up a preview of the matching codes which are in black and the non-matching codes are in gray. 

Step Five: Click Preview

Click on the Preview button to proceed to the next step.

Step Six: Summary Page

The Summary page shows how many codes will be replaced in the Panel (15 our of 16 in this example) and by clicking on the text you can see which codes are not replaced in gray.

Step Seven: Click Replace

Click the Replace button to complete the Device code swap.

Step Eight: Review Changes

Review the changes in the iRule Builder. If you no longer need the previous devices, you can delete it from your setup but by default it is kept.
